You can't say that Google hasn't taken over the search engine industry. The brand has become so intrinsicly linked with search engines that it's almost interchangeable. Yes, there are a lot of other options for search, but the majority of the population loves Google. It has set the standards for minimilistic design with a powerful engine to do exactly what the end user needs. When it first started out Google was used more by "computer geeks" as these were the people who were tapped into the new and upcoming sources of Internet technology. The people behind Google tapped into the resources of all those "geeks" and started creating more technology, labelling it as being in "beta" and used the suggestions made by the people who had signed up for accounts. But what makes Google such a strong example of pop culture? In my opinion, it is the fact that it has become so tied into our culture. Google is referenced to in movies--in Catwoman (2004), Tom Lone, played by Benjamin Bratt, tells Patience Phillips, played by Halle Berry, that he had "googled" her. In one of comedian Dane Cook's sketches he mentions Google. Google is mentioned in novels, and television shows. There is a book that discusses how Google became such a success, almost overnight. And this is only the beginning for Google.
